HEIJUNKA Box

A heijunka box (or levelling board) is a visual scheduling and information tool to provide a queue of upcoming production runs. It is a cupboard with a grid of separations to create rectangular slots or receptacles. The columns represent specific time periods (e.g. within the shift or the day), and the rows are different references. Kanban cards (for example) are placed in the slots. The amount of cards per slot is calculated following the heijunka/levelling methods in order to ensure smooth production.
