Value Stream Mapping

Value stream mapping is a method to describe and optimize the material and information within a defined system (e.g., production line, plant) from the beginning to the end of the production process or value chain. The description employs a standard flow chart and other specific symbols. The approach is as follows: draw the current situation (material and information flow diagram) based on shop floor observations and then design the future value chain based on objectives and optimization targets.
